September 6th 2012

Today in class we reviewed the types of inquiry as seen in museum exhibits. We also wrote journal entries about the exhibits we enjoyed.

After this warm up we broke up into groups and discussed our scientific experiments. Every individual had to create their own google doc protocall describing their experiment. Post it and share it with Jesse and Mackenzie. This experiment is not the same as your exhibit. Mine looked like this:

Question: What type of plant material produces the most electricity?

  1. Remove surface skin from melon. Attach zinc wire and copper wire to voltmeter using 2 alligator clips. attach copper and zinc wire ends to melon and begin timer.

  1. Record electric output every 30 seconds (starting at 0) until output stops. Record total time producing electricity.

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2 with sweet potato.

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2  with pineapple

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2  with apple.

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2  with lemon.

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2  with grapefruits

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2  with kiwi

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2 with oranges

  1. Repeat  step 1 and 2 with  tangerines

  1. Solve for total electricity produced for different plants.
